FLS2 ectodomain from S. lycopersicum
This part is the ectodomain of the FLS2 receptor from S. lycopersicum.
Usage and Biology
The FLAGELLIN-SENSITIVE 2 (FLS2) receptor is a plant pattern recognition receptor (PRR) and perceives bacterial flagellin, more specifically the epitope flg22. FLS2 interacts with another cell surface receptor BAK1. The heterodimerization of FLS2 and BAK1 induces an antibacterial immune response in the plant.
FLS2 is a cell surface receptor consisting of an extracellular domain to which the ligand binds, a single-pass transmembrane domain and an cytoplasmatic kinase domain. Important for the interactoin with BAK1 are the transmembrane domain and the extracellular domain.
The ectodomain of the receptor can be used for protein-fragment complementation experiments (PCA). It can be fused to a split protein and coexpressed with BAK1, fused to the counterpart of the split protein, to visualize the interaction between the two receptors.
Examples of such a complementation system are split-mCherry and the Split-NanoLuc system.
